Dublin Day 2

While this trip has not turned out as planned, I still have to pinch myself to believe that I am actually in Dublin. It has been my deepest desire to stand on Irish lands just as my ancestors did. I have wanted to sink into my roots, into this land and the people. My time here has given me that opportunity. So with Covid and all my experiences, I am grateful to be here.

Today I masked up and took the bus to the middle of Dublin. I spent time walking around and looking at all the beautiful old architecture. I tried to see the Book of Kells at Trinity College, but all the times were filled.

I toured the Anglican St. Patrick’s church. It was fascinating. They had an audio guide. Not only did I learn about the church but also the history of the city.

I then took a tour of the Teeling Whiskey Distillery for my son-in-law, Tom, and Dave Wettstein. I knew they would appreciate my newfound knowledge. Did you know Irish whiskey is distilled three times? And did you know whiskey gets its color from the barrel? Oh, and I have so many other facts!

A trip to Dublin would not be complete without visiting the Guinness Storehouse. But I won't be able to taste it today. By the time I arrived, it was pouring rain, and it was time to head back to the hotel. I will have to find my Guinness there.

Prayer
God of all time, thank you for showing me your presence in the many ways your people live. Thank you for the gifts of creativity demonstrated in architecture, woolen mills, artwork, Celtic designs, illumined books, transportation, ironwork, drinks, and food. And I know this is the tip of the iceberg. For all time, your people have done amazing things. Indeed, Christ lives in each of us. I pray to be continuously awakened to the miracles found in our creation.
